Rail Industry
1.
Jeremy Candfield - Director General, Railway Industry Association
We have a high level of international activity, and visit cities around the world that are constructing major urban rail projects, frequently involving British consultants and contractors. London has spent too long prevaricating Crossrail is desperately needed and needed now.
2.
Peter Hendy CBE, London's Transport Commissioner
…Crossrail will play a vital role in ensuring that London continues to grow and prosper. Crossrail will provide a massive increase of 10% in London’s public transport capacity when it opens in 2017. It will build on our record of delivery, including significant improvements to bus and Tube services, extension of the DLR and more rail capacity through our new London Overground services. It will also relieve pressure on some of the busiest transport routes in the capital. We're looking forward to delivering Crossrail to time and budget.
3.
David Hopley - Managing Director, MDA Rail
I believe that this project is essential part for the delivery of a world class infrastructure that will benefit both the public and industry in general.
4.
Adrian Lyons - Director General, The Railway Forum
Crossrail is one of the key bits of new railway that Britain needs to meet the rapidly growing demand for rail travel. The project is a major innovation for Britain's railways and will transform and improve the journeys of millions of people who live in or visit London and the South East. There is an immense amount of hard work to ensure that the project successfully gets underway. Although the railway industry has much detailed negotiation to undertake with the Crossrail team it fully supports the Crossrail scheme and recognises the key part it will play in revolutionising rail travel in the London and the South East.
5.
George Muir - Director General of the, Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC)
Crossrail is good for passengers and good for the economy. It is an important extension to the national rail network, providing extra capacity where it is needed, and making travel to central London simpler and quicker for many passengers. Together with the Thameslink project, it provides a regional express network for London with a hub in the City. We are already planning the timetable with Crossrail and Network Rail to make the project work for passengers.
6.
Tim O'Toole - Managing Director, London Underground
First we must rebuild the underground we have, second we must deliver Crossrail. The challenge for us will be to keep London moving over the next five or six years.
7.
Doug Oakervee - Chairman of, Cross London Rail Links Ltd
Crossrail is no longer a ‘paper project’. We are now working towards delivery. A professional team with great experience has been assembled, detailed design work continues and the Crossrail Bill is making excellent progress in Parliament.
8.
Christian Wolmar, writer and broadcaster specialising in transport
Crossrail is needed to safeguard London’s future.
