Crossrail is a very important project. We must ensure that the more valuable property assets in the UK remain valuable going forward. That is it will ensure the City and Canary Wharf remain competitive and an attractive place for investment, both commercial and residential, in the next decade.

Crossrail is an immensely important project for the future prosperity and competitiveness of London. Businesses need to have confidence in transport systems, they are the arteries of a metropolis and have to work well to ensure a healthy and vibrant city.  Crossrail is needed to help further modernise the passenger transport infrastructure of the capital. GoSkills, as the Sector Skills Council for the passenger transport, believes that Crossrail offers a major opportunity to to showcase our excellent skills and industries. We will be working with operators and TfL to ensure the right standards, skills and training are in place to match this modernisation.

Sir Michael Latham

Sir Michael Latham - Chairman, ConstructionSkills

Between 2007 and 2011, construction output in Greater London is forecast to increase by an average of 4.5% a year, higher than in any other UK region. A sound infrastructure will underpin this work and, once operational, Crossrail's development will help facilitate the further growth and development required in keeping with London's position as one of the worlds leading cities. One of our biggest challenges is to ensure new entrants and existing workers have access to the training that will deliver the skills that are required for projects across all sectors. ConstructionSkills is working to deliver a safe, professional and fully qualified construction workforce.

The UK’s world-beating financial services companies in the City of London and Docklands need good infrastructure to thrive and grow, and we welcome the important contribution that Crossrail will make to keeping London competitive.
